An in-person masterclass on how to guide groups through strategic thinking.
What will we cover?
Facilitation 101 is hosting an in-person masterclass on how to guide groups through strategic thinking. Strategy conversations often drift, stall, or become dominated by the loudest voices. This session will show you how to bring structure, focus, and clarity to the process.
Across 1 day, we will explore the core stages of strategy work: reflection, analysis, options, and choices. You will experience a complete strategic cycle and use practical tools that help groups think more clearly, test assumptions, and reach grounded decisions. We will also examine the specific role of a facilitator at each stage, including how to frame discussions, surface tensions, and keep groups focused on what matters most.
This is a practical, experiential session. You will see how different facilitation techniques shape the quality of thinking in the room and will leave with a set of simple, repeatable methods that you can use in your own work.
During the masterclass, you will:
examine the common pitfalls that derail strategy sessions
learn how to structure reflective conversations that anchor groups in purpose and context
practise a straightforward approach to analysis to bring discipline to strategic thinking
work through trade-offs and prioritisation to support clearer choices
understand the role of the facilitator across a full strategy cycle
explore how to tackle a sample strategy brief
how to work with teams to help prioritise and focus their work
Learning outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will:

Map the arc of a strategy process and identify appropriate tools and approaches for each stage
Analyse examples of organisational strategies through a facilitator's lens, assessing their strengths, weaknesses and implications for facilitation
Respond to a strategy brief by outlining a facilitation approach, sequencing activities and making considered choices about methods
Practise facilitating at least one practical strategy tool with a small group
Identify the most common pitfalls that derail strategy processes and articulate practical ways to mitigate them
Select tools and methods appropriate to the specific context, stage and group they are working with
