Do you want to build your facilitation skills so you can work in a more trauma-informed way?
Starting November 2025
Facilitation 101 and NeuroTribe UK are collaborating to launch a new course. It brings together training in trauma-informed approaches with core facilitation skills, combining in-person workshops and online modules.
Trauma is present in every group, and as facilitators we will have differing levels of skills and experience at navigating trauma when it emerges. We hope that through this course you will be able to:
feel more confident facilitating groups, and have the tools and techniques you need to facilitate a range of group activities
deepen your understanding of trauma and how it can manifest in groups
build your understanding of how to work in a trauma-informed way, including understanding how to look after yourself when trauma emerges in a group.

Course structure
The training will consist of a combination of in person and online workshops, followed by two group supervision and practice spaces:
1 x orientation meeting to meet the team online
2x days of in-person workshops in London on trauma informed facilitation skills
3x virtual modules on trauma-informed practice
2x two-hour practice supervision spaces following the training.
Kicking off the training
Your training will start with an online orientation meeting where you will meet the training team, and other participants. You’ll then start the course with a full day of in person training in London, jointly led by led by Julia Slay from Facilitation 101 and Yasodha and Kyra from Neuro Tribe UK. This will cover the following areas of trauma informed facilitation skills.
-
Exploring how to bring groups together for the first time in a trauma informed way, and putting this into practice within the training group.
-
We will learn the principles of trauma-informed practice, apply our knowledge of neurodivergent and racialised trauma and explore how to create safe, trauma-informed spaces. We will roleplay the creation of a safe space before thinking about how and where we can apply our learning to our own organizational contexts.
-
We’ll consider how to design events, workshops and meetings to enable everyone to participate actively, in ways that work for them. We’ll also cover how to respond to challenges such as dominant voices, difficult room layout and tech failures.
-
We will explore the nature of power, how it has shown up in your life past and present. We will look at power in wider society, in groups you’ve been a part of, and in your relationships with authority figures. We will uncover what you have experienced as empowering and what has been disempowering and reflect on how your own experiences can positively influence your approaches to creating a safe space.
Online modules
After the first day of in person training you’ll have three two-hour online modules to complete on Zoom
These will cover:
-
This module will provide an overview of what trauma actually is, how it occurs, what happens to the brain and body when experiencing trauma, and the ways trauma can impact our thoughts, feelings, behaviours and ways of relating. We will define both traumatic events and relational trauma.
-
An exploration of experiences of marginalisation and relational abuse that are common to neurodivergent people. We will look at how these experiences can impact thoughts and feelings, and explore behaviours people use to cope.
-
An exploration of racialised experiences of marginalisation, relational abuse and transgenerational trauma in interpersonal relationships and wider society. We will explore how these experiences can impact thoughts and feelings, and we will explore behaviours people use to cope.
Day 2 in person
You’ll then come back together as a group for a second day of in person training. This day will focus on some of the more challenging aspects of facilitating groups, including:
-
This section explores what you as a facilitator might find difficult, or challenging when working with groups, and how to respond to these dynamics.
-
Participants come to workshops with different levels of awareness of their own traumas and how it impacts their behaviours. Conflict between people can sometimes result. In this session, through drama techniques, we will explore frameworks for healing conversations to mediate conflict and encourage mutual empathy between two individuals.
-
Day two will also include lots of time for consolidating the learning and having some practice spaces to explore your new skills and methods.
Supervision and practice spaces
You will also have access to two x 2-hour drop in spaces after the course as a group. These spaces are intended to:
provide a space where you can reflect on what you have learnt
ask questions which have come up as you apply your skills
talk through challenges and ideas relating to how you apply the course content in your day to day work.
The sessions will be held online and jointly facilitated by a member of the Facilitation 101 and NeuroTribe UK teams.
